Our History
50+ Years Of Grace
Katlehong AOG was established in 1952 at Thwala Section by Reverend Nicholas BH Bhengu, founder of the Back to God Crusade, as part of his broader mission to plant churches across Southern Africa. The church was initially entrusted to the leadership of Pastor Shadrack Twala and subsequently guided by several devoted pastors, notably Reverend Nicholas Mosupi and Reverend Dr SD Gumbi.
During the tenure of Reverend Mosupi, significant growth in membership necessitated the relocation of the church to a larger site. This led to the development of the current premises, widely known as “The City Gate,” strategically situated at the entrance of Katlehong, just off the N3 freeway from Johannesburg.
In recent years, following an accidental fire that caused extensive damage to the facility, the church has embarked on a new phase of redevelopment. This ongoing project aims to establish a modern, 21st-century church that will not only serve its congregation but also function as a resource for the broader community.
